NetworkUX is the independent measurement service for organisations whose work depends on mobile coverage and performance being good enough in the real world. We survey every UK and Irish network simultaneously, on the same routes, at the same time — capturing both signal coverage and data throughput, at street level, with every reading geolocated and timestamped. The output is evidence: maps, reports and exports that hold up in front of network operators, regulators and your own board.

What we measure

Two streams. Same survey.

The two metrics that determine whether a network actually serves your users. Most coverage tools measure one or the other. NetworkUX captures both, simultaneously, across every operator.

Signal

What the radio can see.

Continuous polling of signal strength on every operator under test, classified by radio technology — 5G, 5G NSA, 4G, 3G, 2G — with a strength reading in dBm at every measurement point.

Performance

Real data throughput tests — download, upload and combined averages in Mbps, timestamped and geolocated — that show whether a usable service rides on top of that signal.

Performance is the capacity answer — does the network serve a usable service under load.

Signal isn’t service. At The Open Championship, three of four UK networks had 5G NSA signal on 96–99% of measurements — but only Vodafone delivered usable data at scale. That gap is invisible to any tool that only measures one stream.

Other ways of answering that question exist. None of them tell the whole story. Here’s where NetworkUX fits among the alternatives.

vs operator-published coverage maps

Independent, not predicted.

Operator coverage maps are largely predicted from propagation models — not measured at street level. They cover one operator at a time and rarely show performance. NetworkUX measures every operator’s real-world result on the same routes, at the same time.

vs crowdsourced apps

Structured, not opportunistic.

OpenSignal, RootMetrics and Speedtest data are biased by where active users happen to be and what they happen to test. NetworkUX surveys defined areas on planned routes with controlled equipment — structured data you can reason about, not a mixed-quality sample.

vs regulator (Ofcom) data

Performance, not just signal.

Ofcom’s Connected Nations data is signal-coverage focused and aggregated to broad geographies. NetworkUX captures both signal and data throughput, at the precision a charge-point operator, venue or council needs to make a site-by-site decision.

vs commissioning a one-off audit

Repeatable, not bespoke.

A bespoke audit costs more, takes longer and produces an output unique to that engagement. NetworkUX uses a standard methodology with consistent data structures, so a borough-scale survey today is comparable with one a year later, or a sister borough next door, with no stakeholder re-education needed.

vs other coverage checkers

The most granular CC in the UK.

Streetwave aggregates to street segments. Ofcom Map Your Mobile uses 50–100 m cells. Operator checkers are coarser still. Ours uses 10-metre hexagons (H3 res 12), shows all four UK networks side-by-side, excludes server-side time from speeds, and runs on real measurements only — no predictions, no crowdsourcing.
